Snooker:John Higgins made history today when he registered the 1,000th century break at the Crucible Theatre since the World Championships moved to Sheffield 30 years ago.
Canadian Cliff Thorburn compiled the first, a 111 in 1977 in a first-round match against Chris Ross, in a year when only six tons in total were achieved.
And it was left to 1998 champion Higgins to take the tally of hundreds into four figures during his semi-final clash with Shaun Maguire with a break of 122 in frame 29.
Seven-time world champion Stephen Hendry has amassed 105 of those hundreds with Higgins (75) and Ronnie O'Sullivan (69) his closest challengers.
Steve Davis, who won the title on six occasions, notched his 44th world century during his first-round defeat to John Parrott a fortnight ago.
There have been six maximum breaks at the Crucible with Thorburn notching the first in 1983 and other 147s recorded by O'Sullivan (two), Jimmy White, Hendry and Mark Williams.
The record number of hundreds in a single world championships is 68 in 2002, and the 1,000 milestone was reached with the 60th of the 2007 event.
