Gardaí in Dublin have arrested a man in connection with the seizure of 17 kilos of heroin worth an estimated €3.7 million in the west of the city.

In a statement, the Garda press office said members of the Garda National Drugs Unit, assisted by local Garda units, made the seizure today as part of an "ongoing operation to combat organised crime and in particular drug dealing in Dublin".

A 23-year-old man was arrested and is being detained at Clondalkin Garda station under Section Two of the Criminal Justice ( Drug Trafficking ) Act, 1996.

"The seizure, depending on the result of forensic analysis of the substances seized, may have a potential street value of €3.7 million," the statement added.
