A heroin addict who committed a series of syringe robberies has been jailed for six years by Judge Patrick McCartan at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court.

Gary Kelly (22), of New Street Gardens, Dublin, pleaded guilty to seven counts of robbery and one count of false imprisonment.

Judge McCartan imposed a five-year sentence for the robbery of £480 from a shop on Aungier Street on January 12th, 2000. He imposed a consecutive one-year sentence for a robbery that involved false imprisonment.

Garda Joe O'Connor said Kelly and an accomplice approached a man on Benburb Street on the night of September 15th, 1999. Kelly produced a syringe and he and his accomplice led the man to the Queen Street flats and took £265, a bank card and a gold watch from him.
