More than half of the estimated 400 prostitutes in Dublin who are intravenous drug-users have had contact with a dedicated health project targeting women involved in prostitution, writes Nuala Haughey.

The Women's Health Project marked its tenth year yesterday with a seminar in Dublin opened by the Minister of State at the Department of Justice, Equality and Law Reform, Ms Mary Wallace, who launched a new information leaflet produced by the State-funded project, which includes a drop-in medical service, an addiction service, an outreach facility and counselling.

Garda∅ estimate that there are about 400 women intravenous drug-users working in prostitution in Dublin. The Women's Health Project has had contact with 260 of these.
