Ireland and Europe's top-ranked player Padraig Harrington has said that he could join the list of leading names who will miss next week's U.S. PGA Championship.

The Irishman's wife is expecting the birth of their first child and he warned today that he will pull out of the year's fourth major if it is born before, or even during, the event at Oak Hill Country Club in Rochester, New York.

Harrington said in a statement he would fly to New York on Sunday providing wife Caroline did not go into labour beforehand.

"The baby, my wife and the doctor will all determine my schedule," added the world's ninth ranked player.
