Ireland’s Padraig Harrington left it late but managed to book himself into the closing stages of the BMW International Open today after carding his second 70 of the tournament.

The Dubliner left himself nine shots off the leaders Ian Poulter, Richrd Bland and jamie Spence and three shots behind compatriot Paul McGinley.

Harrington’s round however, was overshadowed by embarrassment as he was left apologising to playing partner Trevor Immelman.

Immelman's ball moved on the 15th green before he addressed it and when asked, Harrington incorrectly told him he was allowed to replace it instead of playing as it lies.

It cost the South African a two-shot penalty and turned what would have been a birdie three into a bogey five, and a 70 into a 72 for a six under halfway total.

The only remaining Irish contender, Des Smyth, failed to make the cut after finishing level par despite his good form of late.
