Widespread and sporadic gunfirecrackled across Baghdad after dark tonight as word spreadthat Saddam Hussein's feared and hated sons may have been killedin a gunbattle with US troops.
Judging by the spread and patchy nature of the shooting itdid not appear to indicate fighting. Much of it was Kalashnikovrifles, but Reuters correspondents in the city also heard somemachinegun bursts and small explosions.
