Drugs trafficker and Jennifer Guinness kidnapper, John Cunningham, is due to be extradited to Ireland from the Netherlands later today.
The 53-year-old gangland figure is being flown from Amsterdam to Dublin in Garda custody.
He is expected to appear in court later charged with absconding from an open prison.
He escaped from Shelton Abbey open prison in Co Wicklow in 1996, where he was serving the remainder of a 17-year sentence for kidnapping Mrs Guinness.
It is also likely that he will be questioned in connection with the discovery of a shipment of 780 kilos of cannabis and 15 machine guns he allegedly helped to organise in December 1998.
