Grenade thrown at house in Ennis

A number of homes were evacuated in Co Clare this morning after a hand grenade was thrown at a house in Ennis.

A number of homes were evacuated in Co Clare this morning after a hand grenade was thrown at a house in Ennis.

The grenade, which failed to detonate, was thrown through the front door of a house on Childer's Road at about 8.45 am.

An army bomb disposal team was called to the scene and the grenade was removed to a nearby quarry where it was destroyed.

Army disposal officers gave the all-clear at 11am.
