A Green Party Bill which seeks to meet targets in the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, required over the next 45 years, will be debated by the Dáil tomorrow.

Cross-party support is being sought for the Climate Change Targets Bill which calls on Government to put in place measures necessary to produce the annual pro-rata reductions of up to 80 per cent.

The debate on the bill coincides with the first United Nations climate conference since the Kyoto agreement. The eleventh meeting of the parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP 11) starts in Montreal today and runs until December 9th.

Delegates are expected to discuss how targets on cutting greenhouse gas emissions will be met over the next seven years.
