A Greek court today decided to release a Briton who killed his six-year-old son when he jumped with him and a daughter from a hotel balcony in Crete two years ago, a British embassy official said.
John Hogan jumped with his son Liam and daughter Mia, who was two years old at the time, from the fourth floor of the hotel during a family holiday in Crete in August 2006. Mr Hogan and the girl both survived the fall.
A Greek court had cleared him last year of murder charges but ordered him to receive psychiatric treatment while his mental health would be assessed periodically.
"A hearing at the First Instance Court ruled on the (doctor's) request for Hogan's release. The ruling was positive," said a British Embassy official who declined to be named.
A court source said Mr Hogan would be able to leave the country soon, but could not give an exact date.
