Evita, Shine, The English Patient and The People Vs Larry Flynt dominated the Golden Globe Film Awards, announced in Los Angeles on Sunday night.
Unlike the Oscars, the Golden Globes provide separate categories for drama and musical/comedy, with the award for Best Film (musical or comedy) going to Evita, and for Best Film (drama) to The English Patient. Madonna was voted Best Actress in a musical or comedy for Evita, and Tom Cruise received the Best Actor award for the comedy Jerry Maguire.
In the drama category, Brenda Blethyn won Best Actress for Mike Leigh's Secrets and Lies, while Jeffrey Rush's was voted Best Actor for his performance in the Australian film Shine.
