GENEVA International campaigners yesterday called for an immediate world ban on landmines and described efforts to achieve an interim accord limiting their use and design as "an exercise in futility".
Representatives of a coalition of over 400 non governmental organisations in 36 countries issued their appeal on the second day of a UN sponsored conference on the weapons.
