A consultant obstetrician has apologised before the High Court to a six-year-old girl who has cerebral palsy and is wheelchair bound.
It was claimed that Dr David Corr failed to act on blood tests carried out on Isabelle Sheehan’s mother during her pregnancy which showed a significant risk to the health of the child.
Dr David Corr, in a statement read by his lawyer to the court, said he had made a mistake in not referring Catherine Sheehan, when she was pregnant in 2004, to an expert in foetal medicine.
Suing through her mother Catherine, Mallow, Co Cork, Isabelle had sued Dr Corr, who had a private practice at the Bon Secours Maternity Hospital, Cork, when Isabelle was born there.
Mr Justice Iarfhlaith O’Neill heard agreement had been reached concerning certain payments, including €450,000 for general damages, €450,000 for future loss of earnings, €120,000 for care given to Isabelle and €90,000 special damages.
