The German Interior Ministry denied today that former Georgian President Eduard
Shevardnadze had flown to Germany, retracting an earlier statement by a border guard spokesman that he had landed at a southern German airport.

"The Federal Border Guard has denied that Shevardnadze is in Germany," a spokesman for the ministry said. A spokesman for the southern division of the Bundesgrenzschutz (BGS) Federal Border
Guard service had said earlier that Shevardnadze had landed at Baden-Baden airport.
