German inflation for August was revised up slightly to a 0.1 per cent monthly drop and a 1.1 per cent annual rise, Federal Statistics Office data showed today.
In July, consumer prices rose 0.2 per cent month-on-month and 1.0 per cent year-on-year. The office had earlier reported an estimate of a 0.2 per cent monthly drop for August, for an annual rate of 1.0 per cent.
Prices for services such as in banking, hardware repairs and in the cultural sector had risen above average, the office said, and food prices continued to decline.
Fuel prices were up on the month and for the first time since April did not have a dampening effect on the annual inflation rate, it reported.
Consumer price inflation harmonised to compare with other European Union data and was confirmed at a 1.0 per cent year-on-year rise, unchanged from July.
Inflation in Germany, Europe's largest economy, has been inching up from a 0.8 per cent trough reached in June, but remains well below the European Central Bank's 2 per cent ceiling set for annual price increases.
