GARDA INVESTIGATIONS are continuing into a fire that caused extensive damage to one of Donegal’s most popular restaurants yesterday.

The Yellow Pepper at Lower Main Street, Letterkenny, suffered severe damage after a fire broke out in the kitchen area on the premises at about 3.30am.

The fire was so extensive it broke out through the roof space and also caused damage to the adjoining solicitors office belonging to Quinn-Dillon and Co.

Garda forensic experts carried out extensive assessments of the scene yesterday morning and firemen and insurance personnel joined the owners – Ciaran and Carol Davis, along with some visibly distraught employees.

The premises was formerly the old Labour Exchange in Letterkenny and before it was turned into a thriving restaurant it was a carpet store known as O’Neills.

The extent of the damage is not yet known but it is expected to run into tens of thousands of euro.

Fire tenders from Letterkenny and Stranorlar attended the scene of the blaze. Garda forensics were continuing to sift through the debris yesterday to establish the cause of the fire.
