GARDAÍ ARE investigating the killing of a man who received fatal stab wounds after answering a late-night call to the door of his home in Hollyville Heights, Wexford.
Jason Ryan (27) died at Wexford General Hospital at about 5am yesterday.
His body was removed to Waterford Regional Hospital where a postmortem examination was carried out yesterday afternoon by Deputy State Pathologist Dr Khalid Jabbar.
The apartment where he lived was sealed off for forensic examination by the Garda Technical Bureau, while a crime scene tent was erected a few hundred yards away in the driveway of another house on the Hollyville Heights estate.
It is believed Mr Ryan was stabbed on the street a short distance from his home.
A red Seat Ibiza car parked on the edge of a footpath a few hundred metres away in neighbouring Talbot Green was also sealed off as part of the investigation.
Garda Chief Supt John Roche said gardaí were called to Hollyville Heights at about 12.05am. The victim was brought to Wexford General Hospital where doctors tried unsuccessfully to save his life.
The chief superintendent said he was awaiting the outcome of the postmortem before deciding on the direction of the investigation.
The victim, who grew up in Ferndale Park, was known to the Garda. Uniformed officers conducted door-to-door inquiries in Hollyville Heights yesterday as forensic officers in white overalls carried out a detailed examination of Mr Ryan’s home and the nearby crime scene.
A Garda family liaison officer visited Mr Ryan’s family.
Residents of the small private estate, which has strict parking regulations and CCTV cameras, were shocked when they awoke to discover a crime scene on their doorsteps yesterday morning.
As they left their houses to go to work and bring children to school, some residents were approached by gardaí asking if they had seen or heard anything unusual the night before.
“Nobody can believe that something like this has happened here. It’s terrible.
“This is a quiet estate. You have quite a few retired residents and families with children. It’s very well regulated by a management committee,” said one woman who lives in the area.
