Gardaí have identified the body of a man found beaten and burnt in a Co Tipperary town last night

Gardaí have identified the body of a man found beaten and burnt in a Co Tipperary town last night. However his name has not yet been released.

A group of teenagers found the body lying face down in a bonfire in Castle Lane, Carrick-on-Suir at 9.15 p.m. The man had suffered from burns and head injuries.

The dead man is believed to have been in his 50s and a member of the Travelling community.

His body has been taken to Waterford Regional Hospital where a post mortem will be carried out by the State Pathologist later today.
