Gardai in Waterford were last night awaiting the result of a post-mortem examination on a man who died after suffering a stab wound at a hostel in the city.
Gardai were called to the men's hostel in Lady Lane at about 2.30 a.m. after receiving a report that the 45-year-old man had been injured. A doctor was summoned and the man, who was from Cork, was pronounced dead at the scene.
A knife was found close to the man's body. A Garda spokesman said the death was being treated as suspicious pending the outcome of the post-mortem, which was conducted by the State Pathologist, Dr John Harbison.
