Gardai are searching for six foreign nationals, believed to be Romanians, who ran off after they disembarked from a ferry in Dun Laoghaire from Holyhead on Sunday evening.

The high-speed ferry had docked at 8.25 p.m., and 500 foot passengers disembarked. The six men were among the crowds and tried to escape through the port. They were followed by a garda, who raised the alert and tried to detain them. There was a struggle during which her wrist was slightly injured and the men then ran off towards the DART station.

A Garda spokesman said they believed the men were Romanian as another man was stopped by immigration officers at the ferry. He was Romanian and they believed he was one of the same group.

The spokesman said there was video footage at the port and they might be able to identify the six men from that. He added that the men could be in Dublin, and the search was continuing.
