A Galway man has been charged with two firearm offences at Ennis District Court today in connection with the two-day stand-off at a house in Gort earlier this month.

Anthony Burke (40) of 67 Crowe St, Gort was charged with recklessly discharging a firearm and possession of the firearm for unlawful purposes on the 8th and 9th of October.

Mr Burke was arrested on Wednesday and detained at Ennis Garda Station under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act, 1939.

The man spent the last fortnight in University College Hospital, Galway, where he had been treated for a bullet wound to his chest.

Mr Burke was remanded on bail to re-appear before Ennis District Court next Friday, November 3rd.
