GARDAÍ WERE called to a confrontation in a Dublin pub after words were exchanged between the Kerry footballer Paul Galvin and RTÉ Nob Nationmimic Oliver Callan and his colleague James McDonald.
The alleged row was witnessed by a number of politicians who had gathered in Kehoe’s Pub on South Anne St in Dublin on Wednesday night after a book launch.
The Irish Timesunderstands Callan had just joined his friend Mr McDonald in the pub when they both became involved in the heated exchange with Galvin.
The incident appears to have revolved around Nob Nation parodies of Galvin and his friendship with RTÉ presenter Gráinne Seoige.
Mr McDonald clashed verbally with Galvin over a period of minutes as Senator John Whelan and Minister of State at the Department of Transport Alan Kelly looked on. Physical contact was made between Mr McDonald and Galvin and then between Galvin and Callan, at which point gardaí were called.
Garda sources and some of those who witnessed it described the incident as “handbags stuff” but another source said the confrontation was “very heated”.
One Garda source said that neither Callan, McDonald nor Galvin had made a statement of complaint to gardaí yesterday. Gardaí have appointed a detective inspector to review the incident.
