An award presented to a Tipperary project for its work in helping people with disabilities integrate with the community has prompted a call for Government funding for similar schemes.

Rehab yesterday congratulated the Centre for Independent Living for winning a gold medal for economic integration in the 1996 Helios II Competition for a Personal Assistance Service.

Ms Angela Kerins, Rehab Group director of public affairs and care services, called on the Department of Health to implement the recommendation of the Commission on the Status of People with Disabilities to provide personal assistants to people with significant disabilities.
