The FTSE 100 index opened slightly higher this morning to extend its three-day winning streak as concerns over the global credit squeeze eased.

Financial bookmakers expected the benchmark index to open up 4 to 7 points, having closed up 47.9 points, or 0.73 per cent at 6,595.8 in the previous session.
