Free legal aid provided for man accused of arson

A man accused of burning down his own house as part of a £60,000 insurance claim was granted free legal aid yesterday

A man accused of burning down his own house as part of a £60,000 insurance claim was granted free legal aid yesterday. Mr John Winters (53), of Rushbrook Drive, Templeogue, is accused of arson at his former residence in Westway Park, Blanchardstown, on April 10th 1ast year. Dublin District Court was told at an earlier hearing that gardai were investigating death threats made against the general manager of the insurance company which refused to pay the claim.

Judge Desmond Hogan granted an application for free legal aid in the case and remanded the defendant on continuing bail to appear again on November 11th.
