Dili - Four of eight East Timorese abducted by armed men have been found dead, some with gunshot wounds, sources here said yesterday. Villagers in Atabae, in the East Timorese district of Bobonaro on January 4th, found the bodies of four fellow villagers floating in the nearby Bebai river, said resident sources in Dili. The East Timor police chief, Col Atok Rismanto, said that he had not yet received reports of the incident.

The Portuguese Prime Minister, Mr Antonio Guterres, is to meet the UN special envoy on East Timor, Dr Jamsheed Marker, on January 20th, the Portuguese news agency Lusa reported.
