A former director of nursing at the Leas Cross nursing home in north Co Dublin has been struck off the nursing register.

Grainne Paula Conway was investigated by a fitness to practise panel over eight days and found guilty of professional misconduct.

An Bord Altranais, the Nursing Board, found systematic failures to provide safe, adequate and appropriate care for residents.

An Bord Altranais said its fitness to practise committee had regard to the serious nature of the conditions at Leas Cross and that as director of nursing, Ms Conway had overall responsibility and accountability for the care and welfare of residents at the home during the six years. It said she had a crucial role in relation to care standards.
