A FORMER garda who returned from South Africa yesterday to face charges of sexual assault, common assault and criminal damage was remanded in custody at a sitting of Bridewell District Court last night.
The accused man cannot be named for legal reasons. His solictor, Mr Robert Eagar, said he would be applying for bail when he appears at Dun Laoghaire District Court on March 18th.
Insp Eamonn O'Reilly said she would be "strenuously opposing bail" because he had spent 5 1/2 months making inquiries worldwide in an effort to trace him since the alleged incidents on June 26th last.
Mr Eagar said his client had returned voluntarily from South Africa to face the charges.
