The former Dublin Lord Mayor Ms Mary Freehill has settled her libel action against the Starnewspaper.

Ms Mary Freehill

The newspaper claimed in an article in April 2000 that Ms Freehill (56) had used an expletive in a comment about the media as she emerged from a meeting in a Co Monaghan hotel.

The case began in the High Court yesterday, but was halted over a legal point. The jury was discharged.

However, the court was told this morning the dispute has been settled.

The Starapologised to Ms Freehill in a statement read to the court and stated its report was incorrect.
