The Venerable David Pierpoint was installed as Church of Ireland Archdeacon of Dublin yesterday at a ceremony in Christ Church Cathedral.

Archdeacon Pierpoint was the Vicar of the Christ Church Cathedral Group of parishes for the past nine years before he was chosen for this senior position in the Diocese.

The Archdeacon (48), was ordained in 1986 and began his ministry as an auxiliary in Ballybrack, Co Dublin. He continued to work at his job in a bank at the same time.

He succeeds the Venerable Gordon Linney, who was archdeacon since 1993.

The Archbishop of Dublin, Dr John Neill, chose Archdeacon Pierpoint personally for the role. Many previous incumbents of the post have made their views known on issues and problems facing the city and country.

The archdeacon was active in his efforts to build a worship centre in Dublin's Docklands.
