Beijing - Devastating summer floods in China killed more than 2,000 people by August 3rd and affected 240 million people - one-fifth of the country's population and nearly equal to that of the US.

"More than 2,000 people have died from floods and waterlogging since the beginning of June," the Vice Minister of Civil Affairs, Mr Fan Baojun, said.
