Port Moresby - Between 20,000 and 30,000 villagers were in desperate need of food, fresh water and medical supplies after being hit by the worst floods in 27 years, a senior disaster co-ordinator said yesterday.

Villages in Papua New Guinea's Western Province have been swamped after torrential rain caused the Fly and Strickland rivers to break their banks.
