Dutch emergency services sought today to rescue five maintenance workers who plunged into a boiler at a power plant after scaffolding collapsed, Dutch media reported.

The men were sandblasting at the Amercentrale plant in the southern Netherlands when scaffolding around an 85-metre (280-foot) deep steam boiler collapsed, Dutch news agency ANP and NOS television reported.

Eight workers, believed to be from Turkey and the United States, were on the scaffolding. Three had been rescued from the boiler, which was not in use, ANP and NOS reported.
