Five rescued from fishing boat off Cork coast

Five people were rescued today off the coast of Co Cork after a fire broke out on board their fishing boat.

Five people were rescued today off the coast of Co Cork after a fire broke out on board their fishing boat.

The Irish Coast Guard said the five were taken off the Irish-registered fishing vessel, The Fiona Patricia, after they reported the fire at about 2 p.m.

Another fishing vessel, The Satumas, picked up the five within an hour of the report and the Shannon based rescue helicopter transported the crew to Castletownbere.

The naval vessels, the LE Ciaraand the LE Niamh, went to the scene to extinguish the fire.
