Five people have changed their names to that of a character in a video game.

Five people have changed their names to that of a character in a video game.

The five are now called Turok, the hero of a game being released this week by Acclaim Entertainment for PlayStation 2, Microsoft Xbox and Nintendo GameCube.

Everything from their passports to their telephone bills will now carry their new identities. Acclaim UK claims to be the first company to use this type of marketing.

It says more than 10,000 people applied to change their names to Turok through mynameisturok.com.

The five pioneers of "identity marketing" are each being paid £500 and will receive an Xbox and copies of the new Turok game for their troubles.

Under the terms of the agreement, they are free to change their names back to their original names after one year if they wish to.
