Five key claims: what staff said

* In late 2010, the male care assistant banged the head of an elderly resident against a door jamb

* In late 2010, the male care assistant banged the head of an elderly resident against a door jamb. It is alleged the attendant subsequently called staff members and instructed them to say the man had fallen and hit his head on a hoist if they were asked about it by the man’s son, as he had bruising and blood on his face.

The staff member said she reported it to the registered provider, Therese Lipsett, but no action appeared to have been taken. In addition, a staff member alleged that on another occasion the male care assistant kicked the same elderly resident a number of times while he was on the ground.

This was witnessed by one of the staff who requested the care assistant to stop but he did not stop immediately. The elderly resident died earlier this year from unrelated injuries.

* The staff members also alleged that the assistant routinely took an elderly woman resident to the bathroom on his own and had told other staff that only he on his own could take her to the bathroom. “When he does, so the staff members said they hear [the woman] screaming and that this is a regular occurrence.”
