The former Taoiseach and Irish Times columnist, Dr Garret FitzGerald, has been nominated for the chancellorship of the National University of Ireland by the UCG president, Dr Patrick Fottrell, and UCD registrar, Dr Caroline Hussey. Dr T. K. Whitaker, the present chancellor, retires at the end of October. The election will take place on October 15th.
