A fire which caused extensive damage at the Irish Seaspray salmon-processing factory in Connemara was caused by an electrical fault, according to Galway Fire Brigade.

The fire broke out in the refrigeration area of the plant at Tir an Fhia near Lettermore yesterday afternoon, causing a number of small explosions. The fire was largely confined to a plant room in an exterior building, but nonetheless it was said to have done substantial damage to the factory.
