Scotland captain Colin Hendry's chances of being
banned from international football increased today when FIFA confirmed they had been officially notified of the elbowing incident that put a San Marino player in hospital.
No decision has yet been made on the 35-year-old's future however as FIFA are still waiting for the referee's report to arrive in Zurich.
But Heinz-Herbert Kreh, the match commissioner, has drawn the attention of world football's governing body to the incident.
In the final minute of Scotland's 4-0 Hampden Park win over San Marino on Wednesday night, Hendry was seen to elbow substitute Nicola Albani in the throat as the two jostled in the box.
The 19-year-old student lost consciousness and needed urgent treatment on the pitch before being kept overnight in a Glasgow hospital.
Hendry has since apologised, claiming there had been no intention to hurt his opponent. Scotland coach Craig Brown has refused to punish Hendry, claiming it was out of character.
Albani, who was discharged from hospital yesterday, declined to press charges and the referee, Petteri Kari of Finland, did not take any action at the time.
