The fatal shooting of a man in Limerick tonight is believed to be the latest incident in an ongoing feud in the city.
The local man, aged in his 40s, was shot at 6.30 p.m. in the north of the city, a Garda spokesman said.
It is believed he was shot four times in the back and leg as he worked on a patio outside his house. The attack was carried out by two men on a motorbike.
He was rushed to Limerick Regional Hospital but was pronounced dead a short time later.
The scene of the shooting has been preserved for technical examination. Gardaí at Henry Street Station, in the city are investigating the attack.
The victim has not been officially named by the Garda, but he is believed connected with the feud which has already claimed the lives of Mr Eddie Ryan in November 2000 and Mr Kieran Keane, who was killed in January this year.
Mr Ryan's nephews Edward and Kieran Ryan were abducted last January, but reappeared almost a week later unharmed.
