A Garda forensic investigation into the fire in Ballymun, Dublin, in which a mother and her son died, has concluded the blaze was caused by a wire connection under a downstairs carpet which became frayed. Ms Margaret Morgan (38) and her son Lee, died in the fire on Friday morning at Shangan Green. They were on the upper floor of the house to which the family had moved from the nearby Ballymun flats six months before.

Ms Morgan's other son, aged nine, and her 18 year old nephew escaped.
