Extremists kill 11 guards and soldier

Algiers - Suspected armed Islamist extremists killed 11 Algerian village guards and a soldier in incidents near Medea and Dellys, south of the capital, press reports said yesterday. The attackers kidnapped 10 inhabitants of the village of Derrague, 80 km south of Algiers. Dozens of other residents were wounded in the violence late on Thursday, the daily El-Youm newspaper said.
