DUNDALK:A 50-year-old man appeared before a District Court yesterday after being extradited from Britain to face allegations of rape and sexual assault of a woman in her 70s. The man is facing two counts of rape and one charge each of section 4 rape, aggravated sexual assault and sexual assault. All five offences are alleged to have occurred on March 12th last year.
Garda Sgt Brian Mohan gave evidence at Dundalk District Court yesterday of arresting the accused at Dublin Airport on Tuesday. Sgt Mohan said that in reply to each charge the accused had said “I’m not guilty”, and he asked that the accused be remanded in custody for one week. Solicitor Robert Eager said his client was consenting to the one-week adjournment.
Judge Flann Brennan adjourned the case to Cloverhill District Court next Wednesday and remanded the accused in custody.
