Export trade increases by 6% in August

Seasonally adjusted merchandise exports for August increased by 6 per cent from 7.01 billion to 7

Seasonally adjusted merchandise exports for August increased by 6 per cent from 7.01 billion to 7.44 billion on the previous month, the latest figures from the Central Statistics Office (CSO) showed today.

Exports increased by 2 per cent in July from the relative low of €6.9 billion in June, the CSO.

Imports in August increased by 3 per cent - from €4.4 billion to €4.5 billion - relative to July.

When compared with the same month in the previous year, the unadjusted exports for August 2005 increased by 3 per cent or €206 million to €6.4 billion, while July decreased by 1 per cent or €93 million to €6.9 billion.

Similarly, the year-on-year imports for August increased by €213 million or 5 per cent to €4.1 billion, and July increased by €96 million or 2 per cent to €4.1 billion.

The figures show that from January to July this year exports increased 1 per cent or from €49.4 billion to €50.01 billion.

Imports increased 8 per cent from €28.9 billion to €31.2 billion during the period.
