Explosive devices have been found on a railway line in south Belfast, the PSNI said tonight.

Police said the crudely manufactured devices were left by the track near the City Hospital.

Bomb disposal experts were first called to the site last night after a member of the public reported suspicious activity near the line.

A number of nearby homes were evacuated during the subsequent security alert as controlled explosions were carried out on a bag containing the devices.

The items were later declared safe and removed for forensic examination.

Police have appealed for anyone with information to come forward.
