An improvised explosive device has today been made safe in Co Galway.

An improvised explosive device has today been made safe in Co Galway.

The device was discovered at a house in Clonboo near the Galway/Mayo border at about 1.35pm this afternoon.

An Army bomb disposal team made the device safe and removed it to a secure military base for further examination.

The scene was declared safe at 2.35pm.

This was the 235th explosive ordnance disposal callout of 2011 and the 54th viable improvised explosive device made safe by bomb disposal teams this year.
