Four decades of life in the west of Ireland are chronicled in a new exhibition by Connacht Tribune staff photographer Mr Stan Shields which opened at Galway County Hall last Thursday night.

The exhibition, which covers events from the early 1960s to the present day, was officially opened by RTE reporter Sean Duignan.

Included in the exhibition are images of the visit of President Kennedy in 1963, the Papal Visit of 1979, and sporting successes right up to Galway's All-Ireland football triumph of September last year.

The photographs will remain on display until October 1st and all sales and donations from the exhibition will be given to the Galway Hospice.
