The Campaign to Separate Church and State has criticised plans to exempt teacher training colleges and church authorities from anti discrimination legislation. The legislation is due to be brought before the Oireachtas later this year by the Minister for Equality and Law Reform, Mr Mervyn Taylor.

The organisation claimed that members of minority religious groups, lapsed church members and non-believers would find it "impossible" to get jobs as primary school teachers.
