Euro zone inflation rises in April to 2.4%

Annual inflation in the euro zone was 2.4 per cent in April, revised upwards from an earlier estimate of 2

Annual inflation in the euro zone was 2.4 per cent in April, revised upwards from an earlier estimate of 2.2 per cent, the EU's statistical office Eurostat reported.

In March, annual inflation was 2.5 per cent and in April last year it was 2.9 per cent.

Eurostat said the annual inflation in April was higher than in its previous estimate because of a higher-than-expected increase in the clothing and tobacco sub-indices, particularly in Spain, and also because of rounding effects.

Alcohol and tobacco prices were up 3.9 per cent year-on-year, while clothing prices were up 2.4 per cent.
